Leading members of the engineering community gathered at the International Centre in Mississauga on Saturday, November 19 for the annual Ontario Professional Engineers Awards gala. Focused on this year’s theme of engineering and innovation, the event honoured and celebrated engineers who have made exceptional contributions to their profession, including two ECE Professors and two ECE Alumni.The awards, conferred by the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) and Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), recognize a diverse array of accomplishments, from exceptional research advances to positive social impact.
Professor Stewart Aitchison (ECE) received the Research and Development Medal, recognizing engineers who have advanced knowledge in engineering or applied science.
Professor Vaughn Betz (ECE), and alumni George Anders (ElecE PhD 8T0) and John Yeow (ElecE 9T7, MASc MIE 0T0, PhD MIE 0T3) received Engineering Excellence Medals, honouring those who have contributed substantially to advancing the engineering profession.
Cristina Amon, dean of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, received the Gold Medal in 2015.
“I am delighted that OSPE and PEO have recognized these outstanding U of T engineers for their accomplishments, their leadership and their service to the profession and to the community,” said Dean Amon. “These prestigious awards are a testament to the wide-ranging and meaningful contributions made by our faculty and alumni in all aspects of engineering and beyond.”
