Professor Adel Sedra, former chair and professor in The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, will return to Skule to deliver a Distinguished Lecture on Jan. 20, 2014.

Hosted by the Egyptian Students’ Association at the University of Toronto (ESA), Professor Sedra’s talk will touch on his more than 50 years of experience in universities. Professor Safwat Zaky, another former chair of ECE, will act as master of ceremonies.

Professor Sedra joined the faculty in ECE in 1969, served as its chair from 1986-1993, when he became Provost of the University of Toronto, a position he held until 2002. In 2003 he joined the University of Waterloo as dean of its Faculty of Engineering. Professor Sedra is a world authority in microelectronics. The textbook he co-authored with ECE Professor K.C. Smith, Microelectronic Circuits, is one of the most widely-taught books in the world.

“I’ve studied from his books for the past nine years—it’s been the book to study electronics from, and I’m very excited about this talk,” says Mohamed Abdelfattah, a PhD student in ECE and current president of the ESA. “Part of the ESA’s mandate is to spread Egyptian culture within Toronto and let people know what Egyptians are doing.”

Professor Sedra’s Distinguished Lecture will be followed by a networking dinner, sponsored by the ECE department, in the atrium of the Bahen Centre for Information Technology.
