Recently graduated Ph.D. student Mansoor I. Yousefi of the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering received the IEEE Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award at the 2013 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory in Istanbul this month.
The award was given for the paper ‘Integrable Communication Channels and the Nonlinear Fourier Transform’, based on his doctoral dissertation, and co-authored with his advisor, Prof. Frank R. Kschischang.
Winning the award gives “an extra sense of accomplishment,” says Yousefi. “I’m glad that there is a lot of interest in our work.”
The IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory is the top international conference in the field, attracting more than 1,000 submitted scientific papers, and attended by almost 1,000 researchers from all over the world.
The IEEE J. K. Wolf Award is given to up to three outstanding papers for which a student is the principal author and presenter, and is awarded on the basis of both the content of the paper and the quality of the presentation. The award consists of a $500 honorarium and a plaque.
Yousefi’s paper was one of two papers selected to receive the award in 2013.
