Assistant Professor (Expected Start Date May 2025)Photonics |
Biography
Tatsuhiro Onodera received his BASc in Engineering Science (Physics Option) from the University of Toronto in 2014. He completed his PhD in Applied Physics at Stanford University in 2019, where his research focused on theoretical quantum optics, specifically on single-photon optical nonlinearity in pulsed nanophotonic systems. During his postdoctoral work at NTT Research and Cornell University, he transitioned to experimental work in optical computing and integrated photonics, where he built photonic neural networks for machine learning acceleration and image sensing. In May 2025, he will join the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto as an assistant professor. His research will center on the intersection of integrated photonics, artificial intelligence, and quantum optics, with a focus on developing programmable photonic devices for both classical and quantum information processing.
