Accessing the TNFC

All users are required to fill out an ECE User Access Form and send the completed form via email to tnfc@utoronto.ca. Once the team receives your completed form, you will receive a follow-up regarding your required TNFC safety and equipment training sessions. 

Depending on your affiliation, other documentation or instructions may be required; please see specific circumstances below for more information.  

For all ECE staff, faculty and students: you must first fill out the ECE User Access Form, selecting ‘WB 38’ on the form.  

Please send your completed ECE Access Form to tnfc@utoronto.ca 

For all non-ECE, U of T staff, faculty, and students, you must complete an ECE User Access Form and an Attestation Form to access the TNFC. Please select ‘WB 38’ on the form. Please send both your completed ECE Access Form and the Attestation Form to tnfc@utoronto.ca  

For our non-U of T academic and industrial researchers looking to access the TNFC, please contact  tnfc@utoronto.ca, and a team member will follow up with the next steps.

TNFC Researcher Agreement

All researchers must sign a TNFC Researcher Agreement prior to accessing the facilities. To obtain this form, you can contact the Administrative Coordinator. Once completed, return this form via email to the Administrative Coordinator.  

Access System

TNFC Laboratory Management & Access Control System (LMACS)
The TNFC LMACS system was implemented in 2017 to manage equipment reservations, enable/disable interlocked equipment, and request training and other services from TNFC.

To access the equipment within the University of Toronto TNFC facilities, please visit https://ut.nanofab.ualberta.caand select “Register” to create a user account.
Note: If you are attempting to register with the University of Alberta NanoFAB, please visit https://admin.nanofab.ualberta.ca instead.

User Training

Mandatory TNFC User Training  
Once your completed form is returned, a TNFC team member will reach out regarding mandatory TNFC safety and equipment training.

TNFC Safety Training  
New users must enroll in the next available TNFC Safety Training Seminar before accessing TNFC facilities, including the Wallberg Nanolithography Facility and the Pratt Microfabrication Facility.

This seminar will cover advanced safety topics for semiconductor fabrication cleanrooms, including proper gowning for clean environments, cleanroom design and hazardous material safety training. A safety quiz will be given during the seminar, and handouts will be provided.

TNFC Equipment Training
New users must be formally trained by a member of the TNFC Technical Staff on each piece of required equipment before operating the equipment independently.
Untrained users may accompany other trained users within their group/project, but independent use of equipment without formal training by TNFC Technical Staff is strictly prohibited.
